Keep Swinging
Hank Aaron once said “My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.”
This year has been full of ups and downs, or trouble off the field. I have been away from home a total of two months this year, once for a time in California, and once for a time in Hawaii. Both to help family members recoup from some sort of medical issue. But all I could do is keep swinging.
For half the year I have had to completely change gears with becoming for the first time a Homeschooling Parent to two of my three children, teenagers at that. Personally, I think it had more of an impact on me than it did the kids! The stress was great as I embarked on something totally foreign to me. But I kept swinging.
My support team for my weight loss adventure has changed dramatically from where it was a year ago to where it is today. I have changed locations of my online journals 4 times, my blog 3 times, moved support groups 4 different times, and finally made the only sensible decision and that was to be the key player of a website that I have a vested interest in, as well as majority control of content. Yes, I kept swinging.
Along the way, my weight has been everywhere, because quite frankly, my eating has been everywhere. Trying to maintain while in the middle of stress or traveling, I have discovered, is not an easy combination for me. It’s a learning process I hope to get a handle of this year.
Wasn’t it Albert Einstein that once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”? Well, I know I am not insane, because I am going to do something different this time, and then I will get different results. In fact, I am well aware of what needs to be done. I just need to do it. But all in all, through it all, the only thing I could do is keep swinging and swing I did.
In case you didn’t notice, I have changed the location of my blog. I hope you will pay me a visit and leave me a comment, tell me that your out there.
So with all of those things in mind – my motto for the upcoming New Year will be:
Gonna Shine in 2009
